Senkoji Park stretches from the top to the middle of 144.2-meter-high Senkoji Mountain, and is centered around Senkoji Temple. Visitors can take the Senkoji Ropeway to the summit of Senkoji Temple.
From the observation platform at the top of the mountain, which is connected to the Senkoji ropeway station, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Onomichi City and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, as well as the Shikoku mountain range on a clear day.
The observatory is approximately 63 meters long and is characterized by a looped staircase. The observation deck is 13 meters high and offers a 360-degree view. It is also a night view spot, lit up at night to provide a night view of the Onomichi Waterway area.
The Onomichi Municipal Museum of Art and a walking trail (Bungaku no Komichi) are located in the park. On Senkoji Mountain, visitors can see the vermilion-colored main hall, the bell tower in the Ryugu-zukuri style, and giant and oddly shaped rocks such as Jade Rock and Mie Rock.
The temple is also home to cherry blossoms and azaleas in spring and azaleas in early summer, and a chrysanthemum exhibition is held in autumn.
Senkoji Park has been selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan, one of the 100 best night views in Japan (observatory), one of Japan’s night view heritage sites, and a sacred place for lovers.
