Innoshima Suigun Castle

The Murakami Suigun Museum is located on Innoshima Island. The Murakami Suigun was an allied group of the “Mishima Murakami Clan” (Innoshima Murakami, Nojima Murakami, and Kurushima Murakami) that controlled the Seto Inland Sea from the Muromachi Period to the Sengoku Period.

The castle tower never existed in the past, and was built in 1983 in the image of a naval castle as a museum.
A group of facilities was built, consisting of the Honmaru, Ninomaru, and Sumiyagura (corner turrets).

The Honmaru is used as a naval archive, and exhibits the weapons and materials related to the Murakami Suigun (naval force), which built its wealth through overseas trade.

At the top of the cape where the Innoshima Suigun Castle is now located, there was the castle of Kiyohara Moritaka, Katakari Castle, which still exists with its ring, stone walls, and the remains of his residence, but details are unknown.

It is said that the site where the Innoshima Suigun Castle is located was where the retainers of Katakari Castle lived. The site is located at the foot of Mt. Katakari and is within the precincts of Kinrenji Temple, which is the family temple of the Inoshima Murakami clan. At Kinrenji Temple, there are graves of the successive generations of the Inoshima Murakami family.
