Miyoshi City is located in the northern part of Hiroshima Prefecture. The city boasts one of the largest areas in the Chugoku region, as six surrounding towns and villages were merged together as a result of the Heisei merger. The area is known as one of the heaviest snowfall areas in western Japan, especially in some areas (former Kimida, Nuno, and Sakki village areas).

The area has been known for its history since the Yayoi period, and a number of ancient burial mounds have been found. It was also ruled by the Mori clan during the Warring States period. The area was ruled by the Asano family for a long time as Bingo Province, but was incorporated into Hiroshima City after the abolition of feudalism.

The area has a long and open history, and highlights include a pathway built during the Asano clan period and Hogenji Temple, a family temple of the samurai Asano clan. In summer, "Miyoshi's Cormorant Fishing" is held on the Umarai River, and visitors can also enjoy local traditional events. Joge-cho is an area with a rich history and atmosphere as an inn town along the Ishu Highway, where storehouses and town houses still remain.

There are many facilities such as a history and folklore museum and an ancient burial mound. The area is full of historical and folklore museums and ancient tombs that evoke the atmosphere of those days. Bihoku Hot Spring is one of the tourist attractions in this area, where you can get a relaxing and healing experience.

On the other hand, if you look at gourmet food, "crocodile" is known as a local dish. In this region, sharks are called this way. For example, it can be enjoyed in various ways, such as sashimi, chazuke, tempura, and so on.

As of 2012, Shobara City boasts the largest area in the Chugoku region. It also boasts the 13th largest area in Japan and the largest area west of the Kinki region. This is due to the merger of seven cities and towns. Being a tristate and heavy snowfall area, there are several ski resorts and campgrounds as tourist attractions. This makes it a great place for outdoor recreation.

The Shobara area has an abundance of hot springs. There are hot springs not only in the former Shobara area, but also in a number of surrounding areas, which can be enjoyed on the way home from skiing or camping. They will relieve your fatigue and warm your body and soul.

The area is dotted with many famous landmarks, including the Takayasan Observatory, which offers a panoramic view of the city, and one of the largest rivers in the Chugoku region, the Jiangnogawa River. Furthermore, there are many sightseeing spots such as the Japanese pyramid Asitakesan, which is considered the world's oldest pyramid, and Nanatsukabara Kogen, which is famous for its beautiful cherry blossoms.

In addition, "Donguri Korokoro Pork," a well-known local dish of the region, refers to a pig developed mainly by Hiroshima University. The pig is free-range in a satoyama and raised on acorns, which eliminates the smell of pork and gives it a light and tender texture. It is also made into okonomiyaki, a local delicacy.
