The Takehara/Mihara area is famous for its streets with latticed windows and stick-tile roofs, and Okunojima, the sacred island of rabbits in the Seto Inland Sea. Since it is halfway between Hiroshima and Okayama, it is also a good base for sightseeing in the Sanyo region.
Takehara and Mihara are home to such tourist attractions as Okunojima, known as the Island of Rabbits and Poison Gas, Takehara Museum of Art, Kaguyahime Museum of Art, Bamboo Joy Highland, Shorenji Temple, Yusaka Hot Spring Village, Mihara Castle, Butsunji Temple, Hiroshima Prefectural Central Forest Park, and Sankeien Garden.
Also recommended are local delicacies such as Hattendo's Creamy Buns and Takehara Bamboo Rice made with bamboo shoots produced in Takehara.
